THE Cambrian News has joined forces with Tesco in Cardigan to give you, our readers, an additional say in how £30,000 is spent on three local causes.

The funds have been raised by Tesco’s Bags of Help scheme through the government’s 5p bag charge, and will all go towards environmental improvement projects right here in the community.

Tesco customers will be able to vote in store and online to decide which causes should receive £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 respectively, with Cambrian News readers having extra chances to vote for their favourite initiative.

Pick up a copy of the paper for more information on the causes to help you decide which ones should win your vote, and then exchange the paper coupon for a plastic coupon at the Customer Service desk of Tesco Cardigan between 27 February and 5 March to make your vote count.

Aberporth Village Hall is on a mission to launch a new car park safety scheme.

As well as stepping-up the security measures of the village hall car park, the scheme will also refresh the overall look of the car park so that it mirrors the natural beauty of its surroundings.

The registered charity will use the funds to deliver the project over three months.

Ysgol Gymunedol T Llew Jones in Brynhoffnant wants to drastically improve the school grounds by creating two brand new wildlife gardens and building wildlife homes that can be carefully observed by curious pupils and teachers alike.

Keen to capture the improvements to the school outdoor area, further funding would allow the school to purchase digital cameras and video recorders so that activity within the wildlife gardens and marine tank can be saved, and shared onto the school’s website so that both pupils and parents can enjoy the findings from the project.

Following a unanimous public vote and a lease grant from the local authority, the Pontgarreg Community Group has high hopes of transforming the Community Field in Pontgarreg into a vibrant open playground and park for more than 500 local residents.

The existing memorial garden will be given some much-needed attention, and the project will also see the creation of safe, sturdy paths to improve walkways, ensuring that everyone can access the park.

The former school field will see the creation of a new conservation and seating area, to welcome more and more people to the field so that members of the community - both young and old – can appreciate the naturally beautiful surroundings of Pontgarreg.
