A FORMER pupil of Pwllheli Grammar School has travelled 11,000 miles to attend her first school reunion.
Originally from Glanerch, Y Ffôr, Margaret Glenys Hadley (nee Jones) managed to attend the Dosbarth ’61/Class of ’61 reunion on Saturday, 21 May in Pwllheli having just completed an 11,000-mile journey that morning from her home near Sydney in Australia.
This was the fifth reunion held since they were launched in 1987 by Pwllheli councillor, Michael Sol Owen.
The previous reunions were held in 1991, 2000 and 2011.
Margaret, who had travelled the furthest out of the 30 ex-pupils who attended the event at Plas Heli, was with over 70 others who passed the Scholarship (11 plus) to attend Pwllheli Grammar School in 1961.
The class of 1961 was the last batch of pupils to take this exam.
Margaret emigrated to Australia in 1989 with her husband Patrick and two children and became head of Wenona Girls’ School, the oldest independent boarding school in Sydney. Since her retirement Margaret has spent her time as an educational consultant in Australia, China, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The former Aberystwyth University student said she thoroughly enjoyed attending the reunion and meeting up with old friends.
