A MEIRIONNYDD photographer is showcasing her work capturing life in Cwm Nantcol.

Farm life in the Nantcol Valley – an essay in photographs by student Mari Wyn Lloyd is currently on display at the Willow Gallery in Oswestry.

Mari hails from Cwm Nantcol near Llanbedr, and in a series of photographs depicts the local landscape and farming community in their working situations.

There are five family-run farms in the valley that are worked all year round. The work was Mari’s final major project towards her photography degree at Chester University.

Shot in black and white, the prints show the landscape that surrounds the farms, with the steep Rhinogydd Range in the background, while other photographs show the real world of Welsh farming, some of the characterful individuals who live and work on the land, and the bond between people and their animals.

Mari dedicated the project to her grandfather, who sadly has since passed away. He was the oldest living person in the valley and had many happy memories of each farm.

Mari said: “Exhibiting my final degree work at the Willow Gallery has been a great opportunity to exhibit my personal project to a wider audience and in a new location, and I would like to thank them for this. I also had the opportunity to meet and talk to other artists about my work and theirs, and this has been very interesting.”

The gallery is open (free entry) Monday to Saturday, 9.30pm to 5pm.
