ABERYSTWYTH War Memorial has been lit up in red to mark this year’s Poppy Appeal.
In the run-up to Remembrance Day, the memorial on the ground of Aberystwyth castle will be illuminated along with other iconic buildings and landmarks in Wales.
This year also marks 100 years since the battle of the Somme during the First World War.
The lights were switched on during a ceremony on Friday.
Cllr Paul Hinge, Ceredigion’s Armed Forces Champion said: “When approached by the Royal British Legion and CADW regarding the possibility of joining in with others in lighting up iconic buildings red for this year’s poppy appeal in Wales, I had to see if we here in Ceredigion could mark the 100 years since those horrific battles at the Somme.
“These include Mametz Wood, where so many sons, fathers, brothers of Wales and in particular Ceredigion gave of their lives so we could have peace."
The lights were switched on on 28 October and will come on every night until 14 November.
