I wonder if your readers could assist me in my search for a picture of the Old TA Hall in Dolgellau?
In 1964/65 our band The Abstracts used to perform once a month in this venue, and had a huge following at the time. The fans would wear T-shirts with the name of the band on them. I remember one young lady who used to help unload the kit, Megan Parry.
The dances were organised by a farmer, who lived nearby and he used to put us up for the night after the performance. Do any of your readers remember these popular dances? Has anyone got any pictures of us performing? I would be grateful for any information on these and perhaps hear their comments and memories.
I am 77 years old and writing a book about our band and the many experiences we had of working at the Blue Angel Club in Liverpool, also the Cavern and many others. Spotted by an Italian agent, who took us out to Rome where we appeared in many venues sharing centre stage with the likes of Cliff Richards and the Shadows and The Moody Blues. From Genève, we moved to London and sang at the 400 Club, Leicester Square, where we met Shirley Cohen, Mr Tesco’s daughter. We were booked to appear at her wedding at the Dorchester Hotel. She is now Dame Shirley Porter.
I have got loads of pictures and cuttings for my book, but it all started in Dolgellau for us. Therefore, I really would appreciate if someone has any information to contact me at the address below. My memories are vivid, but I need photos and any memorabilia to recreate this part of my life.
