Five winners from the 2018 Brecon and Radnorshire Urdd National Eisteddfod, including a girl from Talybont, will perform at Disneyland Paris during a Welsh weekend to celebrate St David’s Day.

This year marks a decade since Mickey Mouse visited the Urdd National Eisteddfod in Cardiff Bay and announced a partnership with Urdd Gobaith Cymru that would enable selected winners from the Urdd Eisteddfod to perform in a special annual concert at Disneyland Paris.

This will be the 10th year that a group of Urdd members will be performing at the annual celebration of Welsh culture and the five chosen to travel to Disneyland Paris this year include 11-year-old Miriam Llwyd Davies, who goes to school at Ysgol Gynradd Talybont and was the winner of the Year 5 and 6 Solo competition at the eisteddfod.

They all came together for the first time at the Urdd Centre in Cardiff Bay on Thursday, 14 February, where they enjoyed a performance workshop with mezzo soprano Sian Meinir in preparation for the big event.

Peter Welch, VP commercial and marketing for Disney Destinations International, said: “We’re proud to welcome Urdd winners at the St David’s Welsh Weekend at Disneyland Paris to perform again this year.

“As a proud Welshman myself, the Welsh weekend is something we are extremely proud of as an opportunity to showcase Welsh culture to our international guests, and we’re also proud to continue our work with the Urdd to include young performers of the highest calibre in our Welsh concerts.

“Plus, with special St David’s Day fireworks over Sleeping Beauty Castle, it’s truly a great weekend to visit Disneyland Paris.”
