A Penparcau mechanic was given a shock this week when confronted with cat's eyes when carrying out a routine service on a car.

The cat, which had been missing from its home five miles away in Llanilar, was found in the undertray of a car which was being serviced.

Staff at Moduron Delfryn Owens Motors in Penparcau “couldn’t believe it” when they found a small cat underneath a car on 24 September.

While the cat was a “little bit shaken”, it was unscathed.

After-sales manager Paul Hill filmed mechanic Cliff Williams as he removed the cat from the car.

Paul told the Cambrian News the car had been dropped in by a customer for a routine service, but when the mechanics dropped the under tray they saw the cat’s “eyes poking out”.

The cat went missing from its home in Llanilar last Sunday, 20 September, and the wife of the owner of the car had been in Llanilar on Monday, 21 September.

But Paul said they do not know whether the cat had been underneath the car since Monday.

“It went missing from Llanilar last Sunday and then it was found with us on Thursday,” Paul said.

“I rang the customer to ask ‘could you have lost your cat?’. And he said he hasn’t got any cats.

“I just couldn’t believe what we saw. We’ve seen dead birds, squirrels, and so on, but never a cat.

“It’s amazing how it stayed there, if it has been there since Monday, and it didn’t get trapped in the suspension. It was very, very lucky.

“Where else it’s been on this car journey, we have no idea.”

The cat has since returned home to its owners, who saw the video of their missing cat on Facebook.
