TELEVISION viewers in Barmouth may lose signal as super-fast mobile internet is introduced to the town.

Fourth-generation mobile coverage, known as 4G, is due to launch in the seaside town.

4G gives people faster access to the internet on smartphones and tablets but there is a significant chance 4G mobile signals will cause interference to TV received via an aerial.

Both 4G mobile services and digital TV use parts of the radio spectrum – that is bands of frequencies – to reach service-users.

To mitigate the problem ‘at800’, a company created by the government, is offering free support so that viewers in Barmouth who experience TV interference can keep enjoying their favourite programmes with minimal interference.

Trouble-shooting company at800 can arrange for an engineer to visit and fix the problem, free of charge.

Alternatively, the company can send a free filter - which blocks mobile signals - that viewers can easily fit to the back of a TV.

Cable and satellite TV services, like Sky or Virgin, won’t be affected.

With more 4G masts due to go live, any viewers who experience new interference to Freeview should contact at800 on 0808 13 13 800 or visit www.at800.tv/contact-us.
