MILITARY personnel from across the globe will gather next week for a mock attack on Llanbedr Airfield and Trawsfynydd Power Station.
The biggest UK-based military exercise in over a decade will take place in Meirionnydd between 8-15 October as elite troops from the US, Malaysia, Ireland and Japan come to Wales to sharpen their skills.
‘Exercise Vambrace Warrior’ is being led by The Honourable Artillery Company (HAC), the oldest regiment in the British Army with a history dating back to 1537.
Troops from the HAC, a Reserve Surveillance and Target Acquisition Regiment based at Finsbury Barracks, London, will be training alongside the Regular British Army units as well as multinational military units, the US Air Force and the RAF.
The scenario will see the regiment protecting Llanbedr Airfield and the disused Trawsfynydd nuclear power station against UK and multinational patrols.
This exercise will develop the regiment’s operational role, including long-range patrols and advanced observation skills and the HAC will be joined by British air defence units equipped with a high-velocity missile air-defence systems.
This will be the largest UK ground-based air defence concentration since 2003.
For many of the nations taking part, this will be the first time they will have trained in the UK.
