DOZENS of scooters will be parading through Porthmadog this month.
The ‘Mod’ scene, which is synonymous with scooters, started in the late 1950s in London and is a subculture based on music and fashion, including such icons as Paul Weller and Keith Moon.
At the next bank holiday weekend, at the end of the month, scores of scooters will ride together through Porthmadog High Street in a celebration of the acclaimed movement.
The town is hosting The Snowdonia Scooter Rally for the second year and big names like Neville Staple, of The Specials fame, will be performing on Saturday, 27 May.
The weekend has been arranged by two local scooter enthusiasts, Kevin Teirnan and Lewgi Lewis.
Kevin said: “For one weekend only Porthmadog will become PorthMODog as people from across the country visit our town for the start of the Snowdonia Rally.
“The town will be buzzing with local pubs hosting special DJs and Neville Staple playing at the Ganolfan.
“The highlight of the weekend will be on the Saturday, at midday, when we expect dozens of scooters to ride out from Porthmadog on the rally.
“Demand for tickets has been massive, people love riding their scooters through the spectacular landscape of Snowdonia.
“Local people are also looking forward to the rally, which will bring money and visitors into Porthmadog.”
