Further reductions in the frequency of black bag waste collections and enforcement action against households are still options that will be considered for the future of waste services, councillors have heard.

There could also be limits on the number of black bags that can be collected.

With Ceredigion County Council looking to find ways to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill, Gerwyn Jones, the corporate manager for environmental services, said the authority was still not ruling out changes to the system, despite a previous backlash.

Currently black bag residual waste is collected every two weeks, food waste and recycling collections every week, and there are plans for a three-weekly glass collection.

But with Welsh Government targets expected to be made more stringent, Mr Jones said the council could not rule out introducing further restrictions or measures to the service in Ceredigion which could even see collections of once a month for black bags introduced.

As well as restrictions on black bag waste, Mr Jones said the council could also change what facilities are available at household waste sites and recycling banks which could see a reduction in the number of waste sites and removal of containers for materials that will be collected at the kerbside, including glass.
