Madam,
I (as a responsible dog owner who has been walking my dogs for the last four years at South Beach, Aberystwyth, picking up not just my dog’s mess but also the flotsam rubbish, the litter left by tourists, the rubbish spread by the seagulls, and most importantly the broken glass and fishing line hooks) find it extremely unjust that John Evans (who owns a B&B at the front of South Beach) has found all the time in the world to take pictures, conveniently select them and send them along with condemnatory letters to the Cambrian News, yet I have never seen him make any effort to contribute in helping to keep the beach and surrounding area clean.
Interestingly some time ago a fisherman friend told me that one of the main reasons why South Beach would fail to get a Blue Flag was the sheep manure that comes down the river and ends up polluting the sea water (an argument supported by many other people). Does Mr Evans plan to stop sheep farming in the community as well? Does he want to get rid of all the seagulls, which I have seen picking fish and chip wrappers, burgers, pizza boxes etc from the inside of the bins provided by the council, and spread them along the coast and roads? Does he want to ban the tourist who forgot to pick up their leftovers themselves, and campaign against whoever has had a bonfire and left broken glass or can behind?
Is the solution to keep criticising the council for everything that is wrong with Mr Evans’s life?
Perhaps a more proactive and positive approach will go a bit further since we must not forget that a lot of visitors, students and local people in this community are responsible dog owners. More so, some of them have happily, while walking their dogs at South Beach, collected rubbish in order to keep this problem as small as possible. A lot more than Mr Evans can say for himself.
It would be very nice if Mr Evans could find some time to spend helping us. After all, we are doing the community some good by trying to make South Beach a better experience for everyone.
Yours etc
