ANOTHER supermarket giant has stepped in to help north Ceredigion’s only foodbank to get donations following an appeal in the Cambrian News.

Last month we reported how the Jubilee Storehouse foodbank, run by St Anne’s Church, Penparcau, and Llanychaearn Church, Rhydyfelin, was running “dangerously short” of supplies following the closure of Budgens.

The Cambrian News reported last week that the large Tesco store at the new Mill Street development has agreed to have a permanent collection point in the store. That was put in place this week.

The small Co-op in Penparcau also offered a donation point.

Now, foodbank organisers are celebrating again after Morrisons also agreed to host a collection point.

The donation station was installed at Morrisons on the Parc y Llyn Retail Park this week, along with the collection point at Tesco.

Donations for the foodbank had been accepted at the Budgens store at the Ystwyth Retail Park since it took over from Co-operative last August.

The Co-op store had a collection point for donations, and had supported the foodbank ever since it was established at St Anne’s Church in 2011.

Since the Budgens store closed last month, however, the foodbank had been left without a donation point at a major supermarket in town – reducing donated food “considerably”.
