An Aberystwyth artist has made a mosaic tribute to NHS workers, the Covid Chameleon, and is spreading a little cheer from her front garden this weekend.

Alison Pierse is inviting people to visit her front garden on North Road, Aberystwyth, on 10 to 12 July to see examples of her mosaic work on display and to watch her working on a piece.

The work at the centre of the pop-up gallery will be Alison’s mosaic tribute to NHS workers, the Covid Chameleon.

The Covid Chameleon measures 46cm x 48cm and is being sold to help raise money for Bronglais Hospital. Ten per cent of the purchase price will be donated.

“A few weeks into shut down, with my online business Aberdabbadoo on hold, I decided to pay tribute to the NHS with a new mosaic,” Alison told the Cambrian News.

“The Covid Chameleon celebrates and gives thanks to the essential workers who’ve been working their socks off for us.

“It started with a limpet shell picked up from the beach and developed with a rainbow tail that is beginning to change colour.”

The Covid Chameleon will be one of the mosaics on-show during the pop-up gallery event which will start at 5pm until 8pm on Friday, 10 July, and will continue on Saturday from 11am to 5pm, before finishing on Sunday from 12pm to 4pm.

Alison added: “Why not stroll along the pavement to see the mosaics on display in my front garden in North Road?

“You can watch me working on a mosaic and find out more about my popular heritage walks around Aberystwyth, or talk about commissions and tuition, including the lifelong learning distance-learning courses that will be available to adults in later September.”

As well as freelance work in mosaics, Alison also works in Aberystwyth University as arts co-ordinator in lifelong learning.
