THE mother of Westminster attacker Khalid Masood says she has “shed many tears for the people caught up in this horrendous incident”.

Janet Ajao, 69, who lives in Trelech, near Newcastle Emlyn, said: “I wish to make it absolutely clear, so there can be no doubt, I do not condone his actions nor support the beliefs he held that led to him committing this atrocity.

“I wish to thank my friends, family and community from the bottom of my heart for the love and support given to us.”

Villagers were shocked by the arrival of several police vehicles two days after Masood’s deadly attack left five people dead and dozens injured, some critically.

Masood was shot dead by armed police shortly after ploughing through pedestrians and stabbing a police officer to death close to the House of Commons.

On Saturday it emerged that Mrs Ajao and Masood’s stepfather, Phillip Ajao had been put under police guard amid fears of revenge attacks.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman said: “The occupants are receiving appropriate support. They are not suspects and have not been arrested.”

The force added there was no threat to the area.
