A DETERMINED mountain rescue volunteer is running 130 miles in three arduous days to raise money for her team.

Sian Williams (pictured), who volunteers for Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team, will run around the boundary of the area her team covers to raise money and awareness.

The gruelling challenge, which takes in much of the Dwyfor coastline and some of Snowdonia’s most prominent peaks, will take place over the bank holiday weekend (26 to 28 May).

On Sian’s longest day of ‘Sialens Sian’ (Sian’s Challenge), she will be running nearly 50 miles in a single day along the north coast of the Llyn Peninsula.

Sian, who lives in Porthmadog but works as a sports development manager for clubs across Meirionnydd, is prepared for her challenge.

“I’ve never done anything like this before,” she said.

“I’ve ran a couple of marathons and I compete in fell running races but nothing on this scale, it’s going to be interesting!

“I’ve volunteered with the team for the last four years after moving back to the area five years ago.

“It had always been to nice to know that there were people looking after me when I was up in the mountains, so I joined the team to repay some of that debt.

“This challenge is just another way of showing my appreciation.”

The 38-year-old has already raised nearly £200 but hopes to raise as much as £1,000.
