The last bank in Tywyn should keep a cash machine in the town, the local MP has claimed.
Barclays Bank plans to close its Tywyn branch on 7 June and this week refused a request from Liz Saville Roberts MP to delay the closure.
She is now calling for the bank to commit to the people of Tywyn and provide a cash machine in the town once the bank closes.
In a letter to Mrs Saville Roberts, the bank confirmed it would not delay the closure of the branch despite repeated calls from the MP, Tywyn Community Council, Bryncrug Community Council, residents and over 1,400 people who signed an online/paper petition organised by the MP and local councillors Anne Lloyd-Jones and Mike Stevens.
Mrs Saville Roberts said: "I’m disappointed that Barclays are unwilling to recognise the strong local opposition to the branch closure in Tywyn and reconsider their decision to close the last remaining bank in the town.
“Over 1,400 people have voiced their disapproval of Barclays’ decision to close the branch, by signing an online and paper petition calling on bank bosses to reconsider."
