A VILLAGE post office has reopened its doors, months after the service closed suddenly and without explanation.

Dyffryn Ardudwy’s post office closed suddenly on 22 May this year, leaving those dependent on the service struggling to pay bills and withdraw money.

Gwynedd county councillor Eryl Jones-Williams and MP Liz Saville Roberts have been putting pressure on the post office to reopen because of the inconvenience to local residents, especially the elderly, of having to travel long distances for services that used to be on the doorstep.

A petition calling for the reopening was signed by 650 local people and was handed to Stuart Taylor, head of public relations at the post office by the MP and Gwynedd councillor for Dyffryn Ardudwy.

Cllr Jones-Williams said he was pleased the service had returned this week, saying: “I want to publicly thank our MP Liz Saville Roberts for her efforts and indeed two local businesses, Smithy Garage and Dyffryn Ardudwy Spar shop at London House for ensuring that they had sufficient ‘cashback’ in their tills for local people to have access to cash. We could not have managed over the summer months without them.

“I also know of several local residents who transported elderly people to Barmouth Post Office and their efforts were appreciated.”

The Howards, who had been living in France, have signed a new contract with the post office for the Dyffryn Ardudwy Post Office and have agreed to their new conditions.
