DWYFOR and Meirionnydd’s MP has got on her bike to raise money and awareness for the Poppy Appeal.
Plaid Cymru’s Liz Saville Roberts cycled 2.57km in five minutes as part of a campaign to raise awareness of the 2018 Poppy Appeal and Remembrance Week.
More than 90 MPs and Peers have taken part in the 12-hour static bike ride, each cycling as far as they can on an exercise bike in five minutes; trying to beat their colleagues to top the leaderboard.
Serving members of the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy also took part, racing against MPs and sharing their experiences of life in the armed forces.
The IPT Poppy Ride 2018, in association with the Royal British Legion, sets out to raise funds and awareness for the Poppy Appeal in Parliament in the centenary year of the end of the First World War.
All money raised on the day helps the Royal British Legion provide lifelong financial, social and emotional support for the armed forces community – serving men and women, veterans, and their families.
Mrs Saville Roberts said: “It was great to be able to put my fitness to the test and cycle as far as I did in five minutes for such a good cause.
“I would like to thank the Industry and Parliament Trust and the Royal British Legion for arranging this event.
“There are moving events and services happening in the towns and villages across Dwyfor Meirionnydd to mark the centenary of the First World War.
“I was pleased to attend one such event in Criccieth at the weekend as the town remembered those who gave their lives.
“This year I will be representing Plaid Cymru at the Cenotaph in London to pay my respects to the fallen.
“My thoughts will be with communities back home in Wales and in Dwyfor Meirionnydd as they remember those who never returned from the Great War and other conflicts.”
