Madam,

Following my trip home to Tywyn last week, I feel I must comment on the poor state of maintenance of Tywyn cemetery. In advance of taking my mother to visit the graves of my father and grandparents, I had to go three times to the cemetery to make the plots decent, to both allow her to access them and to avoid causing her any upset by seeing the neglectful levels of upkeep of the plots (and the cemetery).

At 87 and unsteady on her feet, my mother cannot be expected to wade through grass up to her knees! This of course goes for other residents in a similar position.

Gwynedd Council should be ashamed that their cutbacks have reduced the frequency of basic maintenance such as grass-cutting to an extent where the cemetery looks neglected and abandoned. This makes me question at what level were these cutbacks made. How many managers were affected by the cutbacks and how many councillors had a reduction in salaries to help save services?

I urge the council to look again at its decision to cut back on this service as it is very upsetting to see this cemetery (and presumably many others) overgrown.

Cut back the grass and not the services please!

Yours etc
