THE mother of a teenager who tragically lost her battle with cancer is running the London Marathon in her child’s memory.
In October 2016, Tywyn was left reeling following the death of a “strong, kind-hearted and inspirational” 17-year-old, six months after she was struck down by a rare form of cancer.
Much-loved Elisha Carter, who was diagnosed shortly after her 17th birthday, spent months in hospital battling the disease, which had ravaged her spine, kidneys and lungs and left her paralysed from the waist down.
She passed away just weeks after returning home for the first time.
A series of fund-raisers were held in Tywyn for Elisha and her family which raised thousands of pounds.
A memorial bench and a defibrillator have also been installed in honour of the teenager who would have turned 19 in March.
Now, Elisha’s mother Emma Furneaux is hoping to raise money for the cancer charity which looked after her daughter, CLIC Sargent.
Emma has decided to run the London Marathon in 2019, running one mile for every week that her brave daughter was ill for.
She said: “In a moment of absolute stupidity, I have entered the 2019 London Marathon and have been accepted,” said Emma.
“I will be running for CLIC Sargent, a charity very close to our hearts following Elisha’s illness.
“The way I’m looking at it is Elisha was ill for only 26 weeks until she passed away, that’s only one mile for every week.
“Plus 200 metres for good luck, easy right?”
Emma has pledged to raise £2,000 for the teenage cancer charity and has already collected over £600 towards her goal.
