A NEW Quay mum has described the “nightmare” of watching her active 16-year-old son become paralysed in the space of one day after he suffered a “spinal stroke”.
And Julie Law, who said her son Sam also suffered a heart attack while at Morriston Hospital, is now appealing for help in finding a bungalow to rent because the family is unable to make adaptations to their current rented home.
Mrs Law says that, after being examined by neurologists at Glangwili, Sam was rushed to Morriston Hospital, Swansea, where it was suggested Sam may have had a spinal stroke — where the spinal cord has an interruption in blood flow.
Sam, who used to play football for New Quay FC, had to spend five weeks at Morriston Hospital and, to make matters worse, on 21 June, while on the dialysis ward, Sam suffered a heart attack while undergoing plasma replacement therapy.
“There is not a lot of prospect he can walk again,” Mrs Law added. “But we are hoping that he gets better. It has been a complete nightmare.
“We really need to get on with our lives but we don’t know how at the moment with everything that has happened.”
• Anyone who believes they could help Mrs Law and her and her husband Richard find a bungalow, or a suitably adapted or adaptable property to live in, should e-mail Julie Law at [email protected].
