AN Aberystwyth mother has claimed she was forced out of her home on the bank holiday weekend because of “loud” music and noise from the cycle festival.
Aberystwyth Cycle Festival, a highly successful eight-day cycling extravaganza which brings top cyclists from around the UK to compete in the town and its surrounding countryside, ended on Sunday, 28 May.
But the festival reached its climax with the criteriums along the promenade and through the town centre on Friday, 26 May, which also brought with it a party atmosphere not appreciated by all residents.
Michelle Lloyd-Lewis, who lives in a first-floor flat on Pier Street with her husband and their 18-month-old baby and two dogs, said she was forced to go to the beach “on the hottest day of the year” because of the noise, which she claimed was louder than a nightclub.

“It was like a Saturday night in a disco, but twice the volume."
After asking organisers to turn the music down, Mrs Lloyd-Lewis said the noise was reduced for a short while before the speakers were turned back up again.
Mrs Lloyd-Lewis said she eventually called the police, who were “very sympathetic”, but was told they couldn’t do anything because the council had provided organisers with a licence.
Festival organisers told the Cambrian News that noise levels were monitored throughout the day, and were within legal limits.
