A SPECIAL floral tribute has been laid in memory of an influential Barmouth philanthropist.

In 1895 a group of people rallied together, united in their concerns about the impact the age of industrialisation was having on the environment.

This sparked a generous donation by Fanny Talbot, a Barmouth resident.

She donated the first parcel of land to the National Trust, a small hillside overlooking Barmouth known as Dinas Oleu.

Last week, on the eve of the centenary since Fanny Talbot’s death, staff, volunteers and the local community gathered to reflect on what has been achieved to date.

A special commemorative event was held at St Mary’s church, where Fanny Talbot rests, and her gravestone has recently been restored.

A wreath was laid on Fanny’s grave with the gorse, oak leaves and wildflowers harvested from Dinas Oleu.
