A “NEGLECTED” wooden bridge in Aberaeron needs an urgent makeover as it has become an eyesore, according to local residents.
The bridge across the River Aeron overlooking Pwll Cam was built by Ceredgion County Council in the 1990s to enhance the area, despite opposition from locals.
They now it has deteriorated to such an extent that it has become a poor advert for the seaside resort.
“The bridge has been repaired several times by the council, but it looks hideous with the red splotches over it,” said one woman who lives nearby.
“It has begun to crack once more, it has become an eye sore to the residents of Aberaeron.”
A fellow neighbour accused County Hall officials of “neglecting their duties”.
“It was them who wanted the bridge in the first place and at first no one liked it, but soon after, people came to use it,” he added.
“It isn’t just me that feels this way, the town council have tried and failed for over a year to get a decent response, a response that isn’t linked to the financial difficulties of the council.”
Cllr Elizabeth Evans said that, despite much criticism after it first appeared, the bridge had eventually been accepted by townspeople.
The county council did not respond with a comment.
