A number of bins in and around Dolgellau have been replaced following pressure from a local councillor.

Cllr Linda Morgan said this week she was very pleased to see the 15 new bins arrive in the town, following a meeting she had with Peter Simpson, street scene manager, recently which highlighted the urgent need for new bins.

Cllr Morgan said: “Gwynedd Council Works Unit have replaced 15 damaged and poor condition bins in the centre of the town in Eldon Square and Lombard Street, The Marian, Smithfield Street and Arran Road.

“Some of the old bins had been kindly provided by Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor and Ysgol y Gader in the past but were now due to be replaced.”

There are two types of bins and both types are badged with a tidyman/dog symbol, this is to advise users that it is acceptable to use the bins for bagged dog waste.

The bins also have bird flaps to prevent their content being disturbed, and ashtrays to reduce the amount of cigarette litter.

Cllr Morgan added: “We now need people to take responsibility for the quality of the environment in our local areas especially here in Dolgellau.

“I am pleased to say that Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor students and the local children who are part of Meirionnydd Girl Guiding Association take part in litter-picking projects three times a year in the area and they are a credit to the college and Meirionnydd Girl Guiding.

“It was great to see community pride in action from our youngest residents in Dolgellau.

“I would like to thank Peter Simpson, street scene manager, for taking the time to do a site visit in Dolgellau and looking to providing us with the new bins.

“Also thanks to Jonathan Neale, Tidy Towns officer, for his help.”
