Flooding caused problems for traffic in Machynlleth as Storm Dennis washed over the country.
Flood water collected under Machynlleth’s railway bridge on Sunday, again raising concerns about whether the scheme for a new Dyfi Bridge will solve the area’s flooding issues.
But planners have said the proposals include measures to address the issue by including flood bunds and a pump system designed to stop the build up of flood water under the railway bridge.
Flood water under the railway bridge has been a regular problem during periods of heavy rain.
While the storm and flood water caused issues, it didn’t lead to the closure of the road. Other areas in Powys were hit harder by the storm and a number of roads were closed because of flood water.
Traffic lights were put in place on the A44 near Llangurig because of water on the road, but that stretch of road had been passable with care on Sunday.
A Powys Council spokesperson said: “Storm Dennis has had a major impact in the county with roads impassable due to flooding and some towns and villages being cut off due to flood water.
“Our staff are working extremely hard to deal with the impact.”
A Welsh Government spokesperson said: “We are confident the new Dyfi Bridge scheme will increase resilience against river flooding and strengthen links between communities in the area by providing a reliable route to services in Machynlleth and beyond.
"A new pumped drainage system will be installed which will significantly reduce the risk from flooding under the Cambrian Line railway bridge.”
