Madam,

Looks like it is going to take an act of parliament to remedy this totally careless attitude to dumping waste, which is now costing millions of pounds in clean-ups. The whole country is suffering from this blight which is ruining the countryside and our way of life. The whole system of rubbish removal needs to be thought out again. We can all see that the one we have is not working. We have become a through-away society, caring not about the effect on the environment.

The dumping of household goods, ie settees, cookers, beds, etc, should be recycled by the manufacturer, saving money and materials. The removal of household waste needs to be looked after by health officials.

If the timing of this was done more efficiently, we wouldn’t have dumping of waste by careless people. The removal of people’s waste, if not done right, is the biggest health risk to us all. This needs to be addressed before the cost is counted in billions of pounds, which most councils could not afford. This problem needs sorting before it is too late and we all sink in the mire.

Yours etc

Jean Miles
