A NEW project in Aberystwyth aims to tackle inequality and poverty amongst the town’s residents.Amplify Cymru is funded by the Welsh Government and co-ordinated by the Young Foundation. It uses a social innovation programme, successfully piloted in Northern Ireland, to encourage the development of community-based initiatives to identify and combat inequality. The Wales project is taking place in three locations: Aberystwyth, Connah’s Quay and Port Talbot. The project, which was launched on 21 March at St Paul’s Methodist Centre, wants to hear what it’s like for people living in Aberystwyth.“We’re interested in how Aberystwyth could become a fairer place, and will be talking to lots of people to find out how they think this could happen,” said Cath Sherrell, social innovation outreach worker.“Over the next nine months we hope to start a conversation about what makes life here fair or unfair, and to support people who are taking positive action to make change happen."By listening to people’s stories, amplifying voices that don’t usually get heard, and supporting innovative ideas and approaches towards change, we believe we can collectively create fairer places for everyone to live.”
