STRANGE phenomena were seen around the Memorial Hall on Thursday evening when members took part in an illuminating, final meeting of the year, entitled Painting with Light. Introduced by member Pete Kemp, various light sources, including lasers, fireworks and sparklers, were used to create startling photographic images, both in the studio and outdoors. The first meeting of the new year, on 7 January, will be a competition evening on the theme of anything mechanical.

WI

CROSS INN WI ‘s social calendar was very full in the run up to Christmas. It was the AGM in November where they unanimously re-elected the president and her helpers – some vowing they would only do it again for one more year!. The next event was the Christmas dinner at the Hungry Trout. A sumptuous meal, the entertain-ment and the company were so enjoyable that nobody wanted to go home. This was followed within two weeks by a Christmas carol singalong when every member turned out in the most terrible monsoon weather dressed in their Christmas best to indulge in homemade fruit punch, sandwiches and mince pies followed by to-die-for truffles made by a member. Hardly able to move, they at least managed to raise voices in a cacophany of carols before playing an hilarious round of bingo. As if the WI had not had enough socialising, they all went the next week to Mwldan Theatre in Cardigan to see the live screening of The Mikado, adapted and produced by Jonathan Miller. It was truly marvellous and incorporated the wit and music of Gilbert and Sullivan, with cheeky adaptations in the script to bring it up to date politically. The next meeting is on Monday, 11 January at 7pm in Maenygroes Chapel Vestry.
