Penrhyndeudraeth Football Club has completed the construction of a new 100 seat stand at their Maes y Parc ground.

The stand, along with paths covering one length and one width of the pitch, and an on-site car parking, are improvements the club believe will help them achieve Football Association of Wales tier three licensing requirements.

The improvements have also been made for the benefit of the community.

Barry Evans, a committee member at the club, said: “It’s been in the works for 12 months now.

“The committee met and discussed how to get the facilities at the ground to meet the tier three criteria of the Football Association of Wales.

“We would have liked the stand in sooner, but coronavirus made it difficult for the engineers to visit.

“In a way, the delay benefitted us.

“It gave us the chance to carry on fundraising.

“The stand was finished 12 weeks ago and it was installed last Friday (26 March). The purpose of the stand was not just for the senior team, but we also want it to benefit the junior teams too.

“The juniors play on the same pitch which is by the stand and also one next to it.

“The stand is next to both pitches. This will be ideal for parents to sit in when watching games.”

Barry added: “One of the reasons we gave when applying for grants was that we aim to use the facility to start football and other sport sessions. The stand will allow us to have a comfortable place for the children when learning.

“The feedback we have had from the community and businesses who have helped fund the project is very good.

“Iwan Williams has set up one to one coaching sessions. He is holding sessions from 9am to 7pm and he is running them for the next three weeks. This reflects the effect of the club having the facilities. This is a development for the community and we are happy with it.

“The club would like to thank Cambrian Cyf who helped with constructing the groundworks at the ground.”
