COUNCIL workers cleared a path through the storm-tossed shingle on Aberystwyth’s promenade to help walkers last week.
But all their hard work was wrecked this week thanks to Storm Imogen.
The council decided to make a path through the debris after complaints from disgruntled visitors and locals who were finding it difficult to trudge through ankle-deep grit.
But Ceredigion County Council said at the time it only intends to clear all the shingle off the promenade before the Easter holiday period in March.
More shingle, however, was dumped on the promenade during Storm Imogen, obliterating the pathway.
A council spokesperson said: “Normally, after a period of bad weather with large tides such as we have had this week, consideration is given on whether to clear the stone from the promenade.
“We will be carrying out some cleaning work on the current deposits this week.
“The tides that we have during January, February and March regularly deposit stone on the Promenade, and we would normally clear a walkway through the stone, and try and wait until the last high tides during this period before clearing all of the stone from the promenade.
“The forthcoming tides will be between: 8 and 13 February; 22 and 24 February; 8 and 13 March; and 23 to 24 March.
“However, the Easter Holiday this year will be from the 21 March until 1 April, and it will be our intention to clear the stone off the promenade prior to this holiday period.”
