I had the mistaken belief that contributing into the NHS all my working life, I would receive health care to my dying day.
Thanks to Covid, now I’m pushed to one side if it’s not life-threatening. Some time back I tripped crossing the road, fell down on my knees and hit my head, striking a low wall.
I was kindly helped by two passing motorists offering to take me to the nearest hospital for a check-up, unfortunately all local hospitals were closed to non-life-threatening cases, so an ambulance would be out of the question for the same reason.
So I knew I would just have to rely on body self healing.
I had no chance to thank those two motorists, however through this newspaper I give a big thank you. Also Harris Garage, Fairbourne, who dressed the injury to my head then ran me home.
After this I developed cataracts in both eyes and was informed there is a two-year waiting on the NHS for treatment. By then I would be virtually blind so I had no choice but to be privately tested at considerable cost.
Surely the government can make some compensation to the cost, after all I paid in for 45 years on the assurance that my health problems would be attended to as required. Sorry, they have failed me in my hours of need and many others. Already other health clinics are being denied to us unless one pays privately.
The government willingly pays those who can no longer work because of Covid - it’s called “furlough”, well we are losing healthcare for the same reasons.
