Madam,

Whilst realising not as many people travel in the evenings as in the day time, it is important for those who have to travel at night that their journeys are as comfortable as possible.

Jill Baxter’s letter is so important in highlighting the 56-minute wait at Machynlleth off the 7.30pm Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth train for those who wish to travel along the Cambrian Coast.

For the 8.30pm train from Shrewsbury to be scheduled to arrive in Machynlleth two minutes after the coast train leaves is almost impossible to believe.

These sort of missed connections went on in the Beeching days to deter people from using the railways. Welsh taxpayers who pay Arriva to provide the railway service must demand this sort of timetabling never happen again. If people have to wait 56 minutes to change trains at night they should have a heated waiting room with staff about to ensure safety.

This year the Cambrian Coast Line celebrates 150 years of service. With connections like this, the line wont be here in another 50 years. No return to the days of Dr Beeching.

Yours etc,

Chris Magner, Dunval Road, Bridgnorth.
