Madam,
Whilst Ian MacIntyre wallows in his own private game of ‘Ifs, buts or maybes’ about the virtues of proportional representation (Withdrawal from local election was because of health issue, now resolved), the fact remains that on Thursday, 5 May 2011 the electorate voted overwhelmingly to reject changing from the first past the post system by a margin of 67.9 per cent.
Therefore no amount of breast-beating, foot-stamping or denigration can alter the status quo, those are the rules we play by.
Mr MacIntyre’s unremitting, rather tedious, criticism of independent politicians clearly shows his resistance to thinking outside the rigid influence of the Labour Party.
I am a member of the ‘swarm’ (his word) of Independents on Gwynedd Council.
We have a group secretary who ably assists us, and we can approach any council officer from the chief executive down should we feel the need for advice.
Whilst I am pleased to hear that Mr MacIntyre’s health issues have been resolved, his request that I stand down so he can ‘have another go’ as it were, is just plain silly. It doesn’t work like that.
Yours etc,
Louise Hughes, county councillor, Llangelynnin ward, Tywyn.
