Madam,

Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville-Roberts recently visited the ‘Jungle’ refugee camp in Calais and is rightly “concerned” about how Welsh councils will cope financially with an influx of refugees. But, as a fully paid-up EU enthusiast, she has no answer to the problem of Europe’s open borders.

The people in Calais are desperate but they are mostly economic migrants. There is no practical way of telling who is a genuine refugee because they destroy their papers and no-one can check their stories.

Plaid Cymru supports the EU’s open borders policy, giving 508 million EU citizens the absolute right to live and work in Britain. Plaid poses as a nationalist party but their immigration policy means that the border of Wales has been moved from Offa’s Dyke to the Black Sea and the Bosphorus.

Thanks to the EU’s Schengen Agreement, when determined migrants get there they can travel as far as the English Channel just by hitching a lift. Once citizenship is granted, the flow across the Channel will be mostly one way.

Plaid hasn’t a clue how to control the millions who want to make their way here. The numbers are swamping our public services and driving down wages at the lower end of the scale. For many, the minimum wage is now the maximum wage.

The only way to protect public services from migrant overload is to vote to leave the EU in the upcoming referendum.

Yours etc
