I am concerned about and sympathise with the decisionmakers and “experts” at the UK Government, the Senedd, and the Scottish and Irish Parliaments, as the race to produce effective treatments and vaccination to give protection and treat the symptoms of Covid-19 hots up.

Are standard trial safety procedures relevant during the present crisis?

Should we not look at the consequences of delaying widespread vaccination and various treatments pending the usual stage 111 clinical trials results, and not just the direct medical consequences of delay, but also the effects of prolonged and repetitive lockdown on mental health, delayed elective surgery, and on the social and economic well-being of the community?

This is a very difficult but nevertheless critical decision, especially now. There are serious and far-reaching outcomes to both these options, but we must arrive at the correct decision without any more delays, no more confusion, no misunderstandings, and no more law-breaking by the mindless minority which affects us all.

We must succeed in our fight against this virus and ensure a safe and healthy future for us all. The alternative outcome does not bear thinking about.
