Madam,

As a result of the much-deserved elevation of our Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP, Liz Saville-Roberts, to leader of Plaid Cymru in Westminster, Liz has met with other party leaders to discuss ‘Proposals to address sexual harassment’ (Cambrian News, last week)

We live in a society deeply and cruelly divided by class and race.

Such sharp class divisions and the attendant extreme inequalities can give those at the top a feeling of entitlement that can lead to abusive behaviour. Conversely, those disadvantaged by the system can feel an entitlement to behave abusively, born of bitterness at the injustices of the system. It is those inequalities which provide the evil rationale for such abuse.

The key first step in solving these problems is surely to stop recruiting MPs from the privileged classes as if they were inherently better than the rest of us, as anti-Tory parties too often do, and for us all to broadcast loud and wide that upper middle-class entitlement is no entitlement whatsoever, and that men and women from all social classes are entitled to live in a truly egalitarian world, and have the duty to do all in their power to bring it about.

Yours etc,

Ian MacIntyre, Shelbourne Court, St John’s Hill, Barmouth.
