Madam,

May I courteously point out to M Gibbins (Small group not speaking on my behalf) that the closure of Saint Winefride’s Church in Aberystwyth was the decision of the Bishop of Menevia and not of the parishioners to whom she refers.

That closure occurred at the end of October, 2012 in spite of various appeals to the bishop and trustees of the diocese. Subsequently, between November 2012 and 2016, reasoned appeals were then made to the Vatican.

The £103,981.84 referred to in M Gibbins’ letter is a part of the expenditure of £120,120.08 spent by the diocese and recouped by them from parish funds during the period of 2009 to 2011 – which predates any Vatican appeals or even the closure of the parish church.

Yours etc,

Anne C Uruska, Aberystwyth.
