Madam,

In response to the Gwynedd Council leader’s comments in last week’s Cambrian News (Council leader optimistic about the future), I would suggest that Cllr Edwards is in complete denial of the austerity measures he has taken so far.

Cllr Edwards says “Dwyfor and Meirionnydd have much to look forward to”. Has Cllr Edwards forgotten that we have less toilets, less staff on the verge/path cutting, less staff in each department of the authority, schools closing, tourist information centres closing, libraries closing, leisure centres closing.

In addition, foodbanks have now been set up and become a very necessary and important facility for those on the poverty line.

My response to Cllr Edwards therefore, is there isn’t anything left to look forward to! We have moved backwards.

Cllr Edwards, it could be very useful if you would care to take a long look at those areas where they are desperately looking for employment to help them “look forward”. Rhetoric doesn’t work, but actions do.

Yours etc,

O Jean Thomas, Llanfair.
