A PENPARCAU nurse is calling on the county council to shorten the length of double yellow lines on her street after receiving three parking tickets in a year.

Jackie Fraser, a Hospice at Home nurse and bed manager at Bronglais Hospital, who lives in Rhyd-y-bont, just off Min-y-Ddol, told the Cambrian News this week that she is not able to sleep properly when she comes home from a night shift because she is worried about receiving another ticket.

Mrs Fraser said she understands the need to keep the cul-de-sac unobstructed in the event of emergency service vehicles needing to get through, but said there is more than enough space to shorten the double yellow lines on one side of the street.

“I have had three tickets from parking on the double yellow lines, costing me £105,” Mrs Fraser said.

“The council have put the double yellow lines there but they have taken the line too far in my opinion.

“If they take away three car lengths, it would still allow cars and emergency service vehicles to get past. I work nights — 13-hour shifts — and when I come home from work I can’t relax because I’m worried the traffic warden is going to come and give me a ticket.

“I would say the lines have been like that for a year and a half, maybe two years. There is plenty of room to take away some of the line.

“If I was obstructing vehicles, I would understand, but I wasn’t."
