AN ABERYSTWYTH nursery has closed its doors for a week after leaving a child on a minibus for over two hours in 30 degree heat.

An investigation has been launched and a member of staff suspended after the young child was left alone on a minibus outside Camau Bach nursery on Boulevard De Saint Brieuc on Tuesday, 19 July.

The charity Mudiad Meithrin, which runs the nursery, has decided to close the nursery for a week until Thursday, 28 July in the wake of the incident.

Tuesday was the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures in Aberystwyth soaring to over 31°C.

A statement from Mudiad Meithrin said: “Following a serious incident today (Tuesday), when a child - without staff knowing - was left on a minibus for over two hours outside Camau Bach nursery, the matter was immediately referred to Care and Social Services Inspectorate (CSSIW) and the local Safeguarding Board.

“The member of staff who was responsible for the child was instantly suspended from her work.

“A full investigation will follow, and in order to allow this, Camau Bach will be closed for a week.”

A statement on Camau Bach’s Facebook page notifies parents the nursery will be closed following an incident “so that in-house training and maintenance can take place”.

The nursery apologised “for any inconvenience”.
