THE FAMILY of murdered Machynlleth schoolgirl April Jones have launched an official government petition calling for UK legislation to stamp out child sex abuse images on the internet.

The move follows a campaign for signatures for a separate petition set up three years ago, which saw more than 50,000 people sign in less than a week following a fresh appeal on social media.

The new petition, launched on Friday, will see the call for an April’s Law debated in Westminster if it can gather 100,000 signatures.

April’s mother Coral said: “We would like to thank everyone who has signed and shared the petition regarding April’s Law.

“The support has been so overwhelming, but unfortunately we cannot locate the person who originally published the petition.

“Over the last few years Paul, Jazz, Harley and I have tirelessly worked to raise money for missing persons and April’s Trust.

“We have also spoken to many experts and have realised that our original wants regarding the policing of the web may not be obtainable.

“So we have spoken as a family and decided to create a new government petition and I hope that all the people that have signed and shared the other petition will hopefully sign this one and let’s get it over the 100,000 signatures so April’s law can be discussed with the government.”
