A CHARITY football match will take place next month in memory of a much-loved Aberystwyth pub and restaurant owner who died earlier this year.

Tributes poured in following the death of 67-year-old Mike Fisher, owner of the Cambrian Hotel and Le Figaro, who collapsed while walking his dogs at Tanybwlch beach on Sunday, 9 July.

Mike left behind his wife Jayne, and their three children Lisa, Sian and Simon, as well as a number of grandchildren.

Mike was a big supporter of university sports teams and societies, and two Old Boys football teams will go head to head on Saturday, 9 December, to commemorate Mike’s life and raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

The game, between FCLMA Old Boys and WHB Old Boys, will be held at Aberystwyth Town Football Club and kicks off at 2pm.

“The match will be played in honour of Mike Fisher to show support that he gave to both our teams during our time at university,” said organiser Jay Tear.

“We would love to get as many people down as we can to come watch the game and show their support.

“There will be a minute’s applause before the game. We will also be raising as much money as possible for the British Heart Foundation across the weekend.

“Any donations for the BHF, no matter how big or small, will be very much appreciated. There will be volunteers going around at the game with donation buckets.

“After the game, both teams will be heading to the Cambrian for drinks and would love to see as many people as possible back in the pub to show their support for Mike and his family.”
