New parking restrictions and a new one-way system in Cardigan will be introduced to provide improved pavements for pedestrians.

Ceredigion County Council Cabinet members have backed proposals that will see new parking restrictions in College Row and Maes-yr-Haf, and a change to the one-way system in Bath House Road, College Row and Maes-yr-Haf.

The changes will allow improvements to pavements in the area.

Cllr Catrin Miles explained that, under the proposals, Bath House Road running past Theatr Mwldan would be made one-way.

“College Row will be one-way going up past the Cardigan Arms towards the High Street,” she added.

“Maes-yr-Haf will be one-way downwards from North Road to Napier Gardens.

"Proposals will soon be going out to consultation when anyone can input their views on the scheme.

“All the proposals aim to improve safety for pedestrians and mobility users, widening existing footways and creating new ones where necessary and encouraging active travel in the town.

“The scheme at College Row proposes improvements that, in conjunction with developments at the nearby Cardigan Indoor Market, will make a huge difference to that part of town and improve safety significantly.”

Transport Cabinet member Dafydd Edwards said the first step would be to advertise the new traffic orders to allow the schemes to go ahead.

A consultation has already been held with no objections received.
