A KEY Sesiwn Fawr organiser has hailed this year’s festival as a success as the event celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Ywain Myfyr, who has been involved with Sesiwn since it began and is Dolgellau’s deputy mayor described his joy at how this year’s festival panned out.
“We set out with a vision 25 years ago of having music everywhere around the town, and it feels like we have finally achieved that this year,” Cllr Myfyr said.
Sesiwn has enjoyed mixed fortunes over the course of its history, with financial problems forcing the event to take on a smaller scale over recent years.
Cllr Myfyr is happy with where the festival has reached though.
“We became very big, attracting 7,000 people at our peak, but we don’t want to go back to those days. This type of event - which the town can pull together around - is perfect,” he said.
The organisers were “very lucky” with the weather over the weekend, with only a spell of rain on Saturday afternoon causing minor disruption to outdoor events.
Every day of the festival sold out, as locals and visitors enjoyed the variety of cultural events on offer, and provided a boost for Dolgellau businesses.
“It was impossible to find a room to stay in, and the local campsites did very well,” the deputy mayor said.
“No doubt the publicans were happy with their weekend too!”
