Madam,

Reading the article in the Cambrian News about the battle for a public footpath in front of Mawddach Crescent stirred up some fond memories of growing up in Arthog during the 1950s and '60s.

On Saturday afternoons a few of us boys would ride our bikes down the Gen-ffos, take a left turn at the estuary and ride in front of the Crescent across Barmouth Bridge to watch a John Wayne movie.

As a family we would walk or bike along the shore and often sit on the sea wall in front of the crescent with a flask of tea and homemade lunch to take in the vista.

Never do I remember anyone challenging us over being there and we never did visit anyone in any of the homes there.

Yours etc,

Hywel Roberts, Winona, Minnesota, USA.
