Madam,

I am quite sure that the comments attributed to Cllr John Raghoobar (last week’s Cambrian News) in the debate on the buses using Eldon Square in Dolgellau have shocked and horrified many people in the town. Indeed I know from talking to business owners in the square that many are outraged at his suggestion that businesses in the square which have a problem with air pollution “should just close their doors”. Furthermore his comment regarding the recent accident where an elderly lady was knocked down by a bus - that “accidents will happen” - is shocking to say the least. Surely the only acceptable action for a councillor who has obvious disregard for the safety, well-being and economic needs of the people he is elected to represent, not to mention the legal aspects about road safety and air/traffic pollution, is to resign immediately. Dolgellau deserves much better.
