Porthmadog’s annual Christmas window competition is well under way, with over 150 businesses in the town getting involved.

The competition has been a great success for several years now, and this year’s event kicked off on Saturday, 23 November.

Cllr Nia Jeffreys is part of CaruPort, a group of volunteers which organises the competition.

She said: “As nights draw in, it’s great to have light and colour in the High Street shop windows. We are very fortunate in Porthmadog to have so many independent businesses on our high street. Every penny spent in local businesses is reinvested in our own economy here in Porthmadog.

“Thank you to all who have decorated their windows offering us vibrancy and festive cheer in the run up to Christmas. An independent judge will be visiting the town this week and the result of best-dressed shop window and best dress charity shop window will be announced shortly.”

Cllr Jeffreys also added that the event is not just for those in the town and that she would like people to see what Porthmadog has to offer.

She said: “I welcome anyone from across Gwynedd or further afield to visit Porthmadog to do their Christmas shopping - the high street is worth seeing and we have a wealth of different shops selling everything from books to flowers to toys and all sorts of gifts. We also have some wonderful coffee shops and beauty salons and hairdressers here.”

Susan Owen is treasurer of Caru Port and also from the Lili Wen Flower Shop in Porthmadog.

She said: “The best-dressed window competition brings some excitement to the town. Many shops have taken part and we look forward to hearing who’s won. I’d encourage everyone to come to Porthmadog and see the effort shops have put into their windows this year.”
