Over £1,000 has been raised in memory of a Tremadog dad during a bank holiday five-a-side football tournament.

Kristian Ley Roberts, a 38-year-old chef from Tremadog, died in September 2016 while cycling to work, devastating his family and the local community.

He had been found unconscious on the roadside of the A487, between Minffordd and Penrhyndeudraeth, and is believed to have died of natural causes despite being in “excellent” physical health.

Kristian worked as a pastry chef at Portmeirion and was recognised as a dedicated worker and family man.

This is the second year running that a football tournament has been held at y Traeth in memory of Kristian.

Kristian’s dad, Stan Roberts, and Cllr Nia Jeffreys presented a trophy to the winning team at the charity football tournament. Jack Jones, David Jones, Guto Davies, Iolo Borth, Aled Edwards, Robert Watson Ben Jones and Captain Mark Godfrey made up the winning team.

Speaking after the tournament, Stan said: “I just want to thank Porthmadog FC for allowing us to hold the event and to the 18 teams who took part. It was a really great day.”

Cllr Jeffreys said: “I was honoured to present the medals at the charity football tournament in Traeth, Porthmadog.

“Well done to the winning team and everyone who took part.

“Over £1,000 was raised for the Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue.

“It was a great day for the Porthmadog community to get together and enjoy ourselves while remembering a very special man who is sadly missed.”
